Start of summer flu?

Ok, I'm feeling sick.  What's going around?
Is it flu, or something else?

Tossed and turned with heartburn for several hours last night.  It was so bad I felt like I would vomit - literally... mouth tastes like metal and that watering that comes before throwing up is eminent.  It still hasn't gone away. Headache!  Big one.

Last evening I had tightness in my chest that started in the afternoon, accompanied by neck, shoulder and arm pain... I'm sure that's the start to the aches and pains that normally accompany flu and spreads throughout the entire body.

If I didn't have so much to do, I would crawl back in bed for the rest of the day

Gluten Free & Vegan Chocolate Pudding

1 heaping tbsp. of whole flax seed, blend in coffee grinder until it becomes a fine meal
1/4 cup cold water
1/2 cup sugar
1/3 cup cocoa
2 tbsps. cornstarch
1/8 tsp. salt
2 cups chocolate almond milk
2 tsp. vanilla
1/2 tsp. almond extract

TIP:  Ground flax seeds in a coffee grinder. I have one grinder for coffee and a separate one for seeds and spices.
Add 1/4 cup cold water to flax meal in a separate bowl and blend 2 -3 minutes until thickened and has the consistency of eggs.
TIP:  Each 1/4 cup of flax seed mixture will replace one egg in baking.
Blend sugar, cocoa, cornstarch and salt in 2-quart sauce pan. Combine chocolate almond milk and the ground flax mixture; gradually stir into sugar mixture. Cook over medium heat, sirring constantly, until mixture thickens and boils. Boil and stir 1 minute. Remove from heat; add vanilla & almond extract. Pour into dessert dishes. Cool slightly and chill.
TIP:  I noticed that this pudding thickened like pudding after being in the refrigerator.

The Souper Quick

Negative Calorie Soup Recipe

Ingredients
  • 6 onions
  • 2 green peppers
  • 2 cans whole or crushed tomatoes
  • 1 head cabbage
  • 1 large bunch celery
  • 2 pkg. dry onion soup mix

Directions:
Cut vegetables into medium size pieces, add soup mix and cover with water. Cook on high for 10 minutes, then lower heat and simmer until vegetables are tender.

You may add seasoning such as oregano, thyme, old bay or whatever you like. Varying the seasoning varies taste of soup so you don’t tire of it.

The negative calorie diet soup recipe is the belief that there are negative calorie foods that take more calories to digest than the actual calorie content of these foods and so creating a negative caloric effect. The extra energy to break down these foods is taken from the stored fat in the body causing weight loss through the negative calorie diet. For example an apple containing 50 calories may call for 100 calories to digest via the negative calorie diet recipe. So an additional 50 calories have been burnt simply by eating that particular food via the negative calorie diet. These calories are taken from the body's fat reserves in the negative calorie diet recipe.

Yogurt Facials for Great Skin

No need for pricey dermatology treatments to perfect you complexion.  "Yogurt contains lactic acid which is a component in some in-office chemical peels," says dermatologist Hema Sundaram, MD.  "It gently exfoliates the top layers of the epidermis, which can clear up blemishes and discolourations and may even reduce fine wrinkles."

Try this do-it-yourself mask:
Mix 1 cup greek yogurt with 2 to 3 drops of almond or olive oil and a tablespoon of honey;  apply to face, leave on for 20 - 30 minutes, then rinse and pat dry.
Results:  more radiant skin

Meet Nelson Kanuk

Third installment of the Trust film series, a joint collaboration between Our Children's Trust, Witness and the iMatter Campaign.
In this episode of the TRUST Series, meet Nelson Kanuk, a 17-year old who learned how climate change was affecting his community and felt he could best help by sharing his story. In this 8-minute film, Nelson explains that the main problem facing the northern parts of the world is that winter is coming later and later. This results in increased erosion due to permafrost melt, increased flooding due to warmer temperatures, and intensified storms because the sea ice forms later in the season and is unable to provide a natural barrier for our coastal communities. This, in turn, leads in the loss of homes, communities, cultures, and a way of life.

Textured Green Garden Planters

Shopping list
  • ‘Butterfly’ Japanese maple (Acer palmatum ‘Butterfly’)
  • Southern maidenhair fern (Adiantum capillus-veneris)
  • Foxtail fern (Asparagus densiflorus ‘Myersii’)
  • Elephant ear (Bergenia cordifolia)
  • ‘Candidum’ caladium Polka Dot (Hypoestes phyllostachya)

Planting steps and tips

1. Place the Japanese maple in the larger container. Then add caladium and bergenia in both, followed by the ferns.

2. Fill gaps with polka dot. “Hypoestes require regular pinching to keep them compact and to promote the best leaves with the best colour,” Paul says.

3. Even though arrangements like these are best for shade, they still need to be checked for water. If it’s very windy, they’ll dry out.

Tip: In tall containers, create false bottoms using items like terracotta, crushed pop bottles or Styrofoam peanuts in a bag. Use bricks to weigh down a top-heavy container—just make sure you plant it in the desired spot first.

Bright White Container Garden

Plant list
  • 1. ‘Regatta White’ trailing lobelia (Lobelia erinus ‘Regatta White’)
  • 2. Snowstorm Giant Snowflake bacopa (Sutera cordata ‘Danova906’)
  • 3. ‘Serena White’ angelonia (Angelonia ‘Serena White’)
  • 4. Saratoga White nicotiana (Nicotiana alata Saratoga Series)
  • 5. Picobella Cascade White petunia (Petunia ×hybrida Picobella Series)
  • 6. Quartz XP White trailing verbena (Verbena hybrida Quartz XP Series)

Putting it together
Step 1: Select a container with adequate drainage holes and cover with a piece of landscape fabric (available at garden centres) to prevent the soil from washing out of the bottom.

Step 2: Fill the bottom of the pot with an all-purpose potting mix until it fills the lowest openings. Place the lobelias and bacopas into the lowest pockets (you may have to divide the plants to fit), and pack the soil around the roots.

Step 3: Repeat this process, working upward, until all of the pockets are filled. Plant the top of the pot with angelonias, nicotianas and petunias in the centre and more of the trailing plants, including verbenas, along the container’s edge.

Step 4: Water well and rotate the pot every few days to provide the plants with equal sun exposure.

Windsor Star Dinosaur Crawling Back Into The Dark Ages With Subscription Fees
Seriously, I'm not willing to pay for the paper version and the online version is one-sided, inaccurate, and thrown together.... so what makes the dinosaurs at The Windsor Star think I would pay to subscribe  to the online version?  Here's a news bulletin for you geniuses;  I only read some of it to add stories of local interest on a very active Facebook page -  I do this by commenting on articles and having that posted to my Facebook page where it is then 'shared' with several groups with a total memberships in excess of 10,000.

The decision to stay away from this newspaper in the real-world and online, is made too easy with bonehead moves like this.

He Stopped Loving Her Today

George Jones, king of broken hearts, has died at the age of 81

He said I'll love you 'til I die
She told him you'll forget in time
As the years went slowly by
She still preyed upon his mind

He kept her picture on his wall
Went half crazy now and then
He still loved her through it all
Hoping she'd come back again

Kept some letters by his bed
Dated 1962
He had underlined in red
Every single I love you

I went to see him just today
Oh but I didn't see no tears
All dressed up to go away
First time I'd seen him smile in years

(Chorus)
He stopped loving her today
They placed a wreath upon his door
And soon they'll carry him away
He stopped loving her today

(Spoken) You know she came to see him one last time
Oh and we all wondered if she would
And it kept running through my mind
This time he's over her for good

(Repeat Chorus)

Another cool idea using Rustoleums Glow in the Dark paint . . paint it on pots and set them around the deck or pool .. they absorb sunlight during the day and glow at night .  You can paint just about anything and put it in your yard.

Rainbow Cake In A Jar

Ingredients

•1 box white cake mix made according to package instructions
•Neon food coloring in pink, yellow, green, turquoise, and purple
•3 one-pint canning jars
•1 can vanilla frosting
•Rainbow sprinkles

 Directions

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Thoroughly wash and dry the inside of each canning jar. Spray the inside of each jar thoroughly with nonstick cooking spray. Set aside.

Scoop about 1/2 cups of cake batter into five small bowls. It doesn’t have to be perfect, don’t panic if you get a little more of less of one color than another. Tint each bowl of cake batter with the food coloring until very vibrant.

Spoon about 3 tablespoons of the purple batter into the bottom of each jar. Spoon equal amounts of turquoise batter, then green, yellow, and pink.

Place the jars in a shallow baking dish, add about 1/4″ in water in the baking dish.

Place the baking dish in the oven and bake for 30-35 minutes.

Remove jars and allow to cool completely before scooping a small portion from the top of your cake and adding a hefty dollop of vanilla buttercream to the top.

Sprinkle & serve, or cover with a lid and store in the fridge.
