1/4 cup sugar
1/4 cup water
1/4 teaspoon peppermint extract
3 tablespoons warm water
1/2 cup hot espresso
1 1/2 cups steamed milk

Stir the water and sugar in a pot until sugar dissolves and bring to a boil.  Reduce heat to low, simmer and add peppermint extract.
Allow mixture to simmer for 20 minutes.
Mix cocoa and water in a mug until paste forms.  Add espresso and 1 1/2 teaspoons of the peppermint extract.
Finally, add the milk and serve hot.

First prepare the Gingerbread Syrup
2 cups water
1 1/2 cups granulated sugar

Leave uncovered for 15 minutes and then remove from heat.
1/2 cup fresh espresso
1 cup steamed milk
Prepare a double shot of espresso and steam 1 cup of milk.
Pour 1/2 cup of espresso into mug, add 1/4 cup of gingerbread syrup followed by the milk.

Twas The Month After Christmas

Twas the month after Christmas,
and all through the house,
Nothing would fit me,
not even a blouse.

The cookies I'd nibbled,
the chocolate I'd taste
At the holiday parties
had gone to my waist.

When I got on the scales
there arose such a number!
When I walked to the store
(less a walk than a lumber),

I'd remember the marvellous meals I'd prepared;
The gravies and sauces and beef nicely rared,
The wine and the rum balls, the bread and the cheese
And the way I'd never said, "No thank you, please."

As I dressed myself in my husband's old shirt
And prepared once again to do battle with dirt...
I said to myself, as I only can,
"You can't spend a Summer, disguised as a man!"

So, away with the last of the sour cream dip.
Get rid of the fruit cake, every cracker and chip.
Every last bit of food that I like must be banished
Till all the additional ounces have vanished.

I won't have a cookie, not even a lick.
I'll want only to chew on a long celery stick.
I won't have hot biscuits, or corn bread, or pie.
I'll munch on a carrot and quietly cry.

I'm hungry, I'm lonesome, and life is a bore...
But isn't that what January is for?
Unable to giggle, no longer a riot.
Happy New Year to all, and to all a good diet.

Christmas Around Town

We drove around looking at Christmas lights with our grandson.  Forgetting my camera at home once again, I took pictures with my iPhone.  The good, bad or ugly (referring to my photog skills) - I'm sharing them anyway.

The Christmas house on Tranby at Mathew Brady.
The fantastic display of lights is set to music that unfortunately can't be heard on the video.  It's not too late to get out there and see it for yourself.

This house is in East Windsor. I think it was somewhere between Banwell Road and Clover.
